Opportunity Statement
Miha Biotech is seeking a biocompatible and pharmaceutical-grade material for wound-care and skin-healing applications, produced through clean, transparent, and environmentally considerate processing. The material should be safe for skin-contact use and available initially in small sample quantities for research and formulation testing.
Context
Chitosan is a strong candidate for wound-care applications due to its biocompatibility and antimicrobial properties, making it useful in promoting healing. However, most commercially available chitosan is food-grade and not suitable for regulated clinical use. Additionally, chitosan commonly derived from shellfish may pose allergen and sourcing sustainability concerns. Miha Biotech is therefore seeking pharmaceutical-grade chitosan, including alternative or plant-based sources where available, manufactured through low-solvent, traceable, and environmentally considerate processes, with consistent quality suitable for medical development and eventual scale-up.
Response Criteria

- In Scope:
o Medical-grade or pharmaceutical-grade chitosan
o Alternative or non-shellfish-based chitosan sources (preferred, though not required if allergen documentation is provided)
o Ability to provide R&D-scale sample volumes, with potential for future scale-up
o Transparent documentation on source material, extraction method, and purity profile
o Suitable for skin-contact, wound-care, or biomaterial formulation testing
· Out of Scope:
o Food-grade chitosan intended for coatings, sprays, or nutritional use
o Shellfish-derived chitosan without allergen, traceability, or contaminant documentation
o Products produced using high volumes of harsh chemical solvents without mitigation or disclosure practices
The Opportunity
Miha Biotech will collaborate directly with selected suppliers during material evaluation, testing, and early-stage formulation development. If material performance, purity, and supply consistency are validated, suppliers may be considered for long-term commercial supply partnerships as wound-care biomaterial platforms advance toward later development and market readiness.
