Context – Housing affordability is one of the top 3 issues in the majority of Canadian cities, municipalities, provinces as well as for the federal government.

Problem Statement – The majority of house building in Canada is still based upon historic methodologies for construction which has led to high cost, slow construction that is increasingly challenged by higher performance and sustainability requirements (e.g. BC Step Code).

Technical Parameters/Response Criteria – Lower cost, faster, higher levels of performance and lower environmental impact.

Indicative solutions of Interest:

• Pre-manufactured pods (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.).
• Renovation & retrofitting solutions: Insulation, Heat Recovery Ventilation (MVHR in EU),
  windows, doors, and other solutions for improving energy efficiency.
• Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including both off site and on-site innovation
  housing needs across Canada, including among First Nations communities.

The Opportunity – Canada needs to build over 1m homes by 2030 and the EU is significantly ahead when it comes to energy efficiency, modern methods of construction and innovation in the construction space.
