Opportunity Statement
Dexterra is seeking innovative solutions to monitor and sort food waste from packaging at its remote hospitality camps across Canada when standard power and connectivity are available. Given the remote nature of many sites, solutions must also be able to continue functioning during intermittent power and connectivity outages.
Context
Dexterra owns 12 and operates over 55 remote workforce camps nationwide, many in northern regions where all supplies and waste must be trucked in and out. These camps provide facilities such as open lodges, turn-key lodges/remote workforce solutions, catering & camp operations, offshore & marine support services, and disaster & emergency services, all of which produce a significant amount of waste including from kitchens.
Some sites experience intermittent power and connectivity outages due to their remote location.
Response Criteria
In Scope:
· Food waste monitoring and tracking systems that can operate reliably during intermittent power/connectivity outages
· Solutions capable of distinguishing food waste from packaging
· Easy-to-use systems requiring minimal staff training
The Opportunity
This opportunity focuses on Dexterra’s owned camps but has potential to expand across its operated network.
European SMEs offering robust solutions suitable for remote and cold-weather environments, including systems resilient to temporary power or connectivity loss will find strong alignment with Dexterra’s needs. Solutions that enhance sustainability, demonstrate reliability in remote environments, and support circular food systems will be especially attractive.
In addition, growing demand from Indigenous and government clients for improved camp sustainability creates a pathway for broad adoption and scaling across multiple sites.
