Renewable Energy Solutions

Opportunity Statement

Dexterra is seeking deployable, scalable, and cost-effective renewable energy generation solutions to serve its portfolio of remote hospitality camps across Canada. These camps currently rely heavily on natural gas, diesel and propane, and Dexterra is prioritizing technologies that reduce emissions and operational costs, while withstanding the cold climates and logistical constraints of these off-grid environments.

Context

Dexterra operates 55 remote hospitality camps, primarily in northern Canada, serving large clients including mining and energy firms. These camps often function in harsh, cold environments and are logistically complex to operate due to fly-in/fly-out constraints. They rely heavily on diesel and propane generators, which contribute significantly to Scope 1 emissions and present high costs and environmental risks. Dexterra has not yet implemented solar or wind energy and is exploring viable renewable alternatives. A key barrier remains capital cost, alongside regional resistance (particularly in Quebec and Ontario) and operational scalability. Dexterra is especially focused on transitioning energy supply at its ten owned camps, with the possibility of supporting client-owned sites as well.

Response Criteria

·       In Scope:

o   Modular and transportable renewable energy systems (e.g., containerized solar/wind/biogas)

o   Systems designed for rapid deployment and minimal on-site servicing

o   Energy storage solutions appropriate for cold climates

o   Battery transfer systems or alternative fuels

o   Micro-wind or hybrid solar PV/thermal systems with compact footprints

o   Tech validated in cold, remote, or transient environments

·       Out of Scope:

o   Large-scale systems requiring permanent infrastructure

o   Solutions with long return on investment (ROI) timelines (>5 years)

o   Technologies requiring high maintenance or complex on-site support

The Opportunity

Dexterra is positioned to pilot renewable energy solutions at multiple remote camp locations and is committed to solutions that reduce Scope 1 emissions while lowering costs. With ten camps under direct ownership and dozens more operated under contract, the opportunity exists for EU SMEs to demonstrate impact at scale. Technologies with short ROI timelines and minimal maintenance needs are likely to see faster uptake.
